Tribunal Act commences

Issued 14 August 2013.

The Queensland Independent Remuneration Tribunal Act 2013 (PDF, 601KB) was passed by the Parliament on 8 August 2013 and commenced operation on 9 August 2013. The Act establishes the Tribunal as an independent Statutory Authority.

The Act states that, in performing its functions, the Queensland Independent Remuneration Tribunal must act independently, impartially and fairly, and is not subject to direction or control by any entity, including any Minister. The Tribunal’s decisions (or “determinations”) are legally binding and cannot be challenged or appealed.

The Tribunal is required under the Act to make its first determination by 15 October 2013, and to table a copy of its initial determination and written notice of the reasons for the determination in the Queensland Parliament. The determination will also be published on this website.

The Tribunal is currently scoping its initial review of the salaries, allowances and entitlements provided to members, including details of the public consultation process.
